Vivian J. Roller Family Endowment awards grant to
Clark County Senior Center in Kahoka, MO.

Roller Family Members, Roller Committee Members and Friends & Board Members of Kahoka Senior Center

V. J. Roller Committee Members Award Grant
L to R: Judy Sawyer, Trudi Baker (Center Adm.), Jackie Boatman, Phyllis Krambeck, Dean Adkins. Not Present: David Kephart, Chad Jordon.

The Senior Center was informed recently that state funding would be cut for the next four years by $3,284.00, which amounts to 576 meals for seniors and homebound people. The Center serves 40 to 50 homebound people daily. For some this is the only meal or contact with others these people have during the day.

In addition to the homebound meals, they also serve 25 to 35 people daily at the Center facility. Those who are able to come to the facility enjoy playing cards, checkers, and other activities with their friends. The Center is trying to expand activities to encourage more of their seniors to enjoy and use the facility.

In the past couple of years they have had to replace the cooking stove, large freezer, refrigerator and hot water heater. To meet state regulations and codes these appliances have to be commercial type and the cost is many times greater than that of household appliances. The Center was also required to update their fire safety equipment at a cost of $1,500.00.
The Senior Center and Friends are also planning fundraisers to pay off their existing mortgage and to defray some of the cost of needed equipment.

The Executive Committee of the Roller Family Endowment awarded this grant to the Clark County Senior Center because their request matches the purpose of the Endowment to further education and outreach in matters pertaining to seniors. The Endowment was established in 2004 in honor of Ms. Roller and to date has awarded nine scholarships and three grants.

The Endowment is a part of the Missouri Coalition for Quality Care, an advocacy group for the elderly and disabled of Missouri to have a better quality of life. Though set up under MCQC, it is a separate entity and is governed by a six member executive committee.

Through your gifts, donations and memorials you may help the Endowment generate income to further expand our grant and awards category. Contact us through info@mcqc.com or mail directly to the Vivian J. Roller Family Endowment, Missouri Coalition for Quality Care. P.O. Box 7165, Jefferson City, MO.

Let us give back to those who have given us so much by ensuring that their golden years are some of their best years.
