Vivian Jane Roller, with her moral and religious convictions and her great love of family, lived her life as an example to others. Those around her were very aware of these convictions. One of her sayings was, “Accept your children’s dandelions when they are little and they will bring you roses when they are grown.” Vivian received many roses in her lifetime. Even though Alzheimer’s had taken her memory toward the end of her life, some of her last words were to her Lord as she recited the 23rd Psalm. The legacy Vivian left to her children and friends was the love she gave and the example of the way she lived her life. No other legacy could have been greater.

Vivian Roller died as a result of negligence at a nursing home where she was a resident. Her family felt anger and betrayal towards the ones they had entrusted to care for her.

Because of this the children of Vivian Roller initiated legal action against the nursing home where Vivian resided. Prior to the court date the nursing home made a settlement with the family but unlike other similar litigation in Missouri the family would not sign a “no disclosure clause” about the tragedy – they wanted others to know what happened.

Realizing that the quality of care in many Missouri nursing homes is substandard the family of Vivian Roller have initiated an effort to inform and educate the general public about this issue. To accomplish this they have established the Vivian J. Roller Family endowment. The endowment’s mission is to fund organizations or individuals who are working to improve the quality of life and care for residents in long-term care facilities and achieve better pay and training for their caregivers.

Two times a year grants will be awarded from income generated by the endowment. The endowment’s executive committee has established criteria and guidelines governing the grant awards. Because the Vivian J. Roller Family Endowment is a part of MCQC 100% of the endowment’s income will be used for grants. MCQC and the Vivian Roller family will pay for any expenses associated with the endowment. The executive committee governing the endowment is an all-volunteer effort.

We need your help to grow the endowment. All donations earmarked for the Vivian J. Roller Endowment will be deposited and maintained as a part of the endowment’s investments. Your donation will only be used to generate endowment income and cannot be spent for any other purpose. Donations can be made to:
